Development Manager
SIECUS: Sex Ed for Social Change
SIECUS is a leading national sexual and reproductive health organization. Position Description
We are hiring a Development Manager with at least 2-4 years of experience working with major gifts, individual donors, and/or corporate partnership programs at similar organizations or schools. We are looking for a person who is as passionate and enthusiastic about our organization’s mission as we are and who understands the importance this work has in driving change in communities around the world. This role is designed for someone with some experience who is looking to grow their skill with the mentorship of SIECUS’ Senior Development Consultant (who has been with the organization for several years). This role is expected to help develop an internal fundraising program designed to grow with the organization and fundraising program.
Ideal candidates will have prior experience with both 501c3 and 501c4 fundraising strategies and are ready to step into a role to help SIECUS grow and initiate new strategies to engage supporters, major donors, and corporate partners in SIECUS’ mission and programs. This position will support fundraising for the organization’s annual budget, alongside the President/CEO and the Senior Development Consultant. The position will also work with the Finance Director with a few tasks as needed and detailed below.
Responsibilities
This is a leadership role that will report to the SIECUS’ President/CEO and Senior Development Consultant to manage SIECUS’ portfolio of donors and prospects. Responsibilities will include:
- Collaborate with the President/CEO and Senior Development Consultant to develop an annual calendar to ensure year-round engagement and stewardship of major donors.
- Lead relationship cultivation strategies to support major donors and corporate partnerships to accomplish their philanthropic goals, leading to a sustained relationship with SIECUS through renewed and upgraded donor gifts.
- Collaborate with and help develop the skill set of the Board of Directors on fundraising, including by attending and staffing Fundraising Committee meetings and supporting members fundraising activities.
- Manage the major donor pipeline, including: identification; qualification through research; cultivation; request for support; and stewardship, and public and private recognition.
- Support the Director of Social Impact and Strategic Communications in managing corporate sponsor relationships and cultivation strategies.
- Maintain an organized system by updating constituent records, and managing the donor database, wealth screening tools, and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects. Familiarity with WealthEngine and EveryAction a plus.
- Personally make, and assist the President/CEO and board to make, direct solicitations.
- Collaborate with the Senior Development Consultant to conduct prospect research and to review grant LOIs, applications, and reports.
- Track and report progress using specific metrics.
- Process donations and generate and track tax-receipts and acknowledgement letters.
Qualifications
- Understanding of and belief in SIECUS’ mission, vision, and values, including a commitment to reproductive and racial justice.
- Demonstrated experience and comfort in fundraising, soliciting donations, and/or a providing similar development support (Bachelor’s degree or higher and at least 2 years of prior experience with nonprofit development preferred).
- Capable, emotionally intelligent communicator with an astute eye for written and visual communication reaching donors and other stakeholders across the organization.
- Familiarity with fundraising software and tools to track progress throughout the year.
- Strong time management skills and personal accountability, with a detail-oriented and proactive approach to help keep projects on track.
- Enthusiastic self-starter operating with sustained energy and showing great initiative.
- Computer proficiency ,including Microsoft Office products, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; as well as experience with databases such as WealthEngine and EveryAction, auction software, and other electronic tracking systems a plus).
- Understanding of the differences between c3 and c4 fundraising strategies.
- Highly ethical, particularly in working with confidential or sensitive donor information.
- Event planning experience is preferred but not required.
This position reports to: President and CEO
Travel Requirements: Minimal
Compensation: $75-80,000 annually, depending on experience. SIECUS also offers an excellent benefits package, which includes at least 25 days of annual paid leave; and full health, dental, and vision coverage for all eligible employees.
Location: SIECUS is based in Washington, DC, but operates with remote and hybrid work schedule flexibility; remote applicants are welcome to apply.
